Following these simple steps can help keep your lawn looking greener on your side of the fence.

Water in the morning hours. Watering in the am when the air and ground is cool, helps prevent water evaporation (which reduces the water that soaks into the soil), and it prevents the hot midday sun from burning up your yard resulting in brown dry spots.

Inspect sprinkler heads regularly. Inspecting the heads will ensure the system is operating at optimal efficiency. Water runoff and overly soaked spots increase unneeded water usage and higher energy costs. Installing a rain sensor will also help reduce those costs as well.

Maintaining consistent grass height. If you keep your grass cut between 3-3.5 inches, it helps maintain the level of moisture in the soil, to prevent drought and the need to be watered more often. Depending on your type of grass and level of shade, it's possible to only need to water a few times a week.
